Many surfers use the Google or Alexa bar that integrates into their web browsers which consequently makes it easier for them to search and navigate through Internet. However, how many have the “overall page rank” indicator on these bars which shows either a ranking or the importance of the page?
The overall page rank in directories like Google, Yahoo or Alexa is the key factor while doing a search. It decides which website or page deserves the top places in the results of the search of a keyword. The search engine basically calculates the importance of the webpage.
For example, let’s say that you prepared a webpage supplying the users with focused, detailed and understandable info. You think your page deserves a high importance, therefore when you search for the theme of your website, you believe it should be shown in the top 20. Well, sometimes life is cruel. If you don’t optimize your webpage for a specific keyword, if you don’t get enough inbound links directing the user to your site, you would be disappointed by the 1/10 importance rating in Google. Don’t give up! It’s still worth fighting for. There are several factors which decide the page rank of a website.
First of all, Internet is not like the streets of a city: if you put your “shop” in a busy street, people will drop by your place. No visit on Internet is a coincidence. You have to create your links from other sites (inbound links). You also have to increase the internal linking of your website so that visitors can just “hang around” in your site. So your first factor for the page rank is the linking of your page.
Secondly, pages which attract more users (i.e. number of unique daily users) are obviously more important in the “eyes” of the search engines. This, being the dependent variable in our equation, grows directly proportional to the inbound links. So, page rank also increases with the number of unique users.
At last, relative, focused content increases the importance of your page (page rank). Initially, every page you add to your site increases the overall page rank of the whole before you start adding in-context hyperlinks; “in-context” hyperlinks because according to Google authorities, the hyperlinks that you place inside the content of the page are accepted more valuable.
Briefly, on the web, there are no lucky days, no coincidences or no serendipities. If you want website traffic on your page, you have to create it yourself. You have to put quality, focused and original content, you have to increase the number of the inbound links. The website traffic on your site will increase automatically depending on the other variables. Finally, one day you will look at your site and see that the page rank has jumped from 1 to 4 or even higher. Then you will understand that “La vita e bella.”

About two months ago I started my own blog and I soon realized how hard can be to get some traffic to your site. You submitted your website to the search engines and finally got indexed, but if your site appears on a 5th ot 10th results page for a specific search, this will not bring a lot of traffic to your site.
Sounds familiar?
Well, bringing some quality traffic to your site is not that hard at the end. By putting some little effort in it I was able to achieve a pagerank of 5 in only one month and that drives pretty much traffic to my blog. My site was also showing in the top ten results on google for some really competitive keywords with millions of total results and I’ve done all this in weeks!
To drive good traffic to your site, you need to pay attention to two things:
1) Have quality content on your site
2) Have quality links pointing to your site ( or even better if you are able to exchange links )
I can’t help you much with your site content, since it depends a lot on your website, but I can give you some advices on how to find good links pointing to your site.
Linking is one of the most important factors in the search engine optimization process. The number and quality of links pointing to your site show how famous your website is and the Google’s pagerank is in fact calculated from the links pointing to a page, that’s why the pagerank indicates how important a page is. The Pagerank formula is quite simple, the pagerank of a page A is an adjusted sum of the inbound links pointing to page A. And the value of a single outbound link from page B is calculated by dividing the pagerank of page B by the number of outbound links on page B.
Now let’s take a look at where you can place links to your site.
1) Public forums – there are many public forums and places for discussion on the internet. Search for forums that you like, take part to the discussion and leave your link under your signiture. Remember to leave some quality posts, if you will just leave links you’ll be easily banned.
2) RSS feeds – If you own a blog or you have a RSS feed for syndication on your site, there are dozens of sites that will publish a link to your site or even distribute your content for free.
3) Digg.com – A really high traffic website with links to articles. If you can have a good article linked from Digg, it will drive you tons of traffic.
4) Article exchange – If you are a good writer and have the time to write, you can find hundreds of sites that will publish and distribute your article and they will all link back to your site.
5) Link exchange – If you find some good websites related to yours you can ask the webmaster if he would like to exchange links.
6) Own a blog to promote your site – blogs are so popular today that even bigger business websites are starting their own blogs. A blog can be a really powerful tool for marketing your site. It can attract thousands of fresh, targeted visitors to your site for free and can help you earn a #1 ranking in the search engines, and drive truckloads of highly targeted traffic to your site.
And remember, always look for quality and try to put links on pages with high pageranks.

If you’re looking for a way to market your website, and you haven’t considered using eBay, then you could very well be missing out on one of the lowest cost website marketing options around. Let me explain…
Everyone is looking for a way to generate targeted website traffic at the lowest possible cost, but it seems that a whole lot of people are overlooking an awesome website marketing tool that is probably already book-marked inside their browser – eBay.
EBay has over 65 million registered users buying, selling and browsing all kinds of products around the clock. Just think, what if we (website owners) had a way to funnel some of that traffic off onto our website? Well, we do, and we can do it relatively cheaply!
The key to accomplishing this is the eBay ‘Me’ page. The eBay Me page is sort of a profile-like page that you setup for your eBay ID. When potential customers look at your auctions, and your ID, they will see a little ‘Me’ icon graphic that links to your Me page. And it’s very important to note: your Me page can link to your website.
Let’s see how this could work with an example. Let’s say you have a website that sells a course on how to make money using Pay-Per-Click (PPC) search engines and you want to get traffic from eBay to this website.
A good way to go about doing this is to create a small report on PPC Advertising that you can market on eBay. This report should contain useful information, but it should also pre-sell your main product – your PPC course on your website. Your PPC report should be something that you’re willing to give away or sell for very little, in the following example, you’ll be selling it for 99 cents.
You then need two more things: an enticing auction advertisement, and an enticing Me page that drives visitors back to your website.
You’re now ready to open your auction. The particular auction you’re going to create should be a Featured Plus auction, which means it is displayed at the top of the auction listings before the non-Featured auctions (regular auctions). You will also want the auction to be a Dutch auction, which means you can sell multiple items from the same auction. A Featured Plus auction will cost around $20.00 to post, along with about $5 – $6 of miscellaneous posting fees including the Dutch auction fee. So your cost for selling a low-cost report in this manner will typically be about $26.00.
Now, I hate to go over figures because there’s just so much that contributes to the outcome of those figures, but let me throw out some typical scenarios as I experienced them.
If your auction has an enticing title, you could very possibly get 100-300 visitors to your auction. I’ve personally seen auctions that sell home business informational products get up to 1500 visitors! Let’s say you get 150. Of that 150, about 20% will visit your website through your Me page, which works out to about 30 visits, again my experience.
Of the 150 visits to your auction, you will generate some sales for your report. If the auction copy is good, it isn’t uncommon to get 10% – 20% sales, especially at the 99 cents range, which works out to 15-30 purchases. Let’s say you generate 15% sales, which works out to 22 sales (rounding down).
Now let’s tally everything up. At the end of the auction, you’ve spent $26.00 on the auction itself. You made $22.00 on the report sales. And you generated 30 website visits. If we do the math, you came out paying about 13 cents for each website visitor ($26.00-$22.00/30 visits). Plus, you have a copy of your report in the hands of 22 hot prospects (remember your report pre-sells your website PPC course). Can it get better than that? The answer is yes! I’ve been conservative with these figures. The fact is, you can actually make money and drive traffic to your website with some practice/tweaking.
Interesting to note, at the time of this writing, Overture was charging anywhere from $0.51 for the tenth place position and $2.55 for the number 1 place position for the “PPC” keyword. In our example, we generated 30 visits for 13 cents per visit from 1 auction. What if you had 10 or 30 of these types of auctions running?
Granted, I realize that this example may not fit everyone’s situation, but you should be able to apply it to some extent.
The formula is really quite simple:
1. Sell something that pertains to your website that you can give away or sell for very little. Information is the perfect product.
2. Then make sure your auction (and auction title) is extremely enticing – try to drive as much traffic to your auction as possible.
3. Then make sure your Me page drives the visitor to your website (maybe offer something free, like another report).
Give it a try… you may have to tweak it here or there… but the formula does work.

In the internet business there’s a saying that goes something like “traffic is the key.” As you know in order to make sales you have to have customers. On the internet the only way to have customers is to have visitors to your web site. And how does this happen? Well it CAN happen in several ways BUT some are worthless. Let’s talk about those first…
Perhaps the most worthless is the random chance that a person will type the url to your web site. There really is no chance at all really save an act of God because why would they type something randomly? and why you? So people need to know who you are or what your product is in order to make their way to your site. In other words you need to advertise in order to create web traffic. A slightly better way is to have a link on another of your own, or somebody else’s web site. The only Problem is in order to get people to your site there has to be people going to those other websites which again necessitates advertising. So “traffic is the key” but advertising is the key to traffic. So lets talk about advertising now.
Internet advertising is helped, actually driven by the search engines. The higher you rank on the search engine for a give entry the more people will visit your site. This is because people are lazy and don’t want to work to find what they want to find. It also makes sense because everyone thinks that the top results are the most applicable to what they want, and this is the idea. So web traffic is the key, advertising is the key to web traffic, and ranking high on the search engine is the key to good advertising. So lets talk about search engine ranking now.
Search engine ranking is somewhat of a mystery and those who have figured out the most secrets are the best at advertising on the internet. Links to other pages is good, keyword relevance is good, and selling something that a lot of people want is good too. The other thing to remember is that it is pointless to get lots of people to see your page if they are not interested in what you are selling. This brings up the concept of targeted web traffic–getting people who want what you’ve got specifically to your site.
Anyway, these “gurus” who have been at it for years like to give out helpful information (at a price) and tools that make it easier to come up with effective sales sites. This product is one of those tools that helps to bring targeted web traffic to you, making you a more effective internet seller.
There are several ways to get traffic to your site. You can pay for your traffic or get it for free. I’d like to concentrate on free traffic.
The first thing you need to do is make sure your site is key-word optimized for the search engines. For a new site, using low competition words can help you to get placed high on some search engines and give you much needed targeted traffic. If you have a site with several categories, doing at least one optimization a day will slowly but surely build your business. With more than one category this gives you an opportunity to be placed on the search engine with each category and not just your front page.
Another way to help build targeted traffic and links to your site is a blog. You can have the blog linked to your site. If you update your site regularly and ‘ping’ your blog with one of the free pinging services, you will gradually build your traffic and business.
There are many sites that have free content that you can use on your blog. Once you’ve set up the blog and find the right ping service, this would only take you a few moments a day. When using free articles, be sure and use proper etiquette, giving the author credit for his writing.
The tried and true way to build ‘free’ traffic and links, is articles. You can write about anything you want or about the services or products your website distributes. If you’re not able to write the articles yourself, there are a number of services available that can do it for you (you pay). Then post your article to as many directories as possible. Webmasters are constantly on the look out for good, new content.
The number of links to your site is critical in your placement with most search engines. Articles and a blog help build your site targeted traffic slowly. But to speed up your linking process, you could search and join some link exchange sites. The more links the better.

Imagine the next time you join a discussion about traffic. When you start
sharing the fascinating traffic facts below, your friends will be absolutely amazed.
Traffic Exchanges offer a great free way of promoting your business. They should be included in your advertising arsenal but make sure that you leverage your time effectively and you don’t surf for hours for those advertising credits. Try to find a traffic exchange program that will not hinder your normal surfing behavior, while advertising your business, and you will be one of the few people who maximize their time and effort with this free marketing tool.
Some traffic exchange services will make your surfing experience a bit more complex, since you would have to wait for a timer to expire in order to be awarded credits, and while that timer counts down you are forced to view another person’s website from the network.
Some of these measures were taken by the traffic exchange programs in an effort to minimize or eliminate cheating, as some users have created ways to cheat the system by using software programs that auto surf and earn them credits.
Typically, participants to traffic exchanges will surf the Internet with a
slight modification of how they normally would, in an effort to collect credits.
The less departure from the normal surfing experience, the more the webmaster will be willing to use that traffic exchange program. Also, the less you force a user to view your website, the more targeted they will be for that product or service. For example, someone who reads a headline in a traffic exchange and clicks on it to view the website is more targeted than someone who views it because they are forced to wait for a timer to expire.
Now that you have an overview of what traffic exchange programs are, and how they work, lets have a look at their main benefits:
1. You can recruit affiliates to gain more exposure to your site
2. You can build a list to market your products to
3. They’re free to use
4. Targeted Traffic (for Internet Marketing)
So far, we’ve uncovered some interesting facts about traffic. You may decide that the following information is even more interesting.
Almost all traffic exchange services are free, although you can upgrade
your membership to get additional benefits in some. This means that someone
with a low or no budget can quickly start advertising their website for
little or no cost.
If your product is Internet marketing related then the traffic you would
receive to your website will be somewhat targeted because they will be
people who are also looking for ways of increasing their online income
and traffic.
To capture these names and add them to your email list have a page designed to give out a freebie or a 5 part e-course in exchange for an email address. You can then follow up with these leads and sell them more stuff in the future.
If you have your own product and affiliate program, you can recruit affiliates to sell your products for a commission. The more people selling your products, the more passive income you will make.
In conclusion, Traffic Exchange programs are services that are used by webmasters to attract more traffic and to obtain more exposure for their business.
There are different types of traffic exchange programs. Many will let you surf the Internet as you normally would but require that you set your browser’s start page to their default advertising page. Then, every time your browser loads one of their pages you earn advertising credits. You can also get credits for clicking on links of other members in the network. The credits you earn can be used in exchange for visitors to your site.
Don’t limit yourself by refusing to learn the details about traffic. The more you know, the easier it will be to focus on what’s important.
